Benign vascular lesions, usually red in color, are lesions caused by an abnormal clustering of blood vessels. By selectively heating and closing off these blood vessels, Dye VL reduces the lesions while sparing nearby tissue from injury. Pigmented lesions are clusters of melanin and can appear brown, as these pigmented lesions are treated; the light energy heats the melanin in the lesions and causes it to fragment. The melanin fragments are then absorbed by the body and eliminated.
